A meeting between Bhenji Ra and Karina Utomo, WETAN summons the winds as carriers of ancestral resonance, weaving Moro (Southern Philippines) and Javanese (Indonesia) cosmologies into a transcendent exchange and fortification of spirit and memory.
Karina Utomo’s disintegration and abstraction of voice explores multidisciplinary forms of extreme metal, experimental cross-cultural practices, and extra-normal voicing. Working across the genres of industrial, avant-garde improvisation, grindcore, and black metal, she partners with Bhenji Ra, Mother of Ballroom House/Western Sydney-based collective SLÉ. behnji is a transdisciplinary artist whose combined practice of dance, video, illustration, and community activation dissects cultural theory, identity, and colonial perspectives to produce multiplicities of spectacle that urge us to imagine alternative models of community and imprint a deep spiritual reckoning within.
